POSITION: Project Manager, Copper Products DEPARTMENT: Manufacturing

FLSA STATUS: Exempt REPORTS TO: General Manager

GENERAL SUMMARY

This position is responsible for planning, executing, and supporting water cooled copper products used through the specialty melting industry (such as titanium melting) via manufacturing of crucibles, hearths, molds, pullers, and other niche products. The position will involve customer interaction inclusive of product knowledge of both RPM and customer designed copper products to facilitate sales and support of copper products. Additionally, the position will require strong organizational and design skills, to facilitate quoting, negotiating, and processing customer orders. Additionally, the position will also require support in the realization of the copper product inclusive of vendor management, purchasing, and planning so the products are delivered on time and meeting or exceeding internal and external quality expectations. 2D & 3D drawing and modeling along with AS9100 quality standards are essential.

Additionally, this position also has responsibility for: Process improvements; material sourcing; creating engineering masters; initiating cost improvements; field service contact; new product development and product innovation through engineering analysis (water cooled copper); composition & presentation of technical papers; continuous improvement initiative (labor, material, services, quality).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Manufacturing:

· Actively demonstrates compliance to ISO 9001 & AS9100, Quality System requirements in day-to-day operations.

· Interacts and maintains contact with existing and prospective customers for the purpose of identifying, verifying and documenting customer specific requirements (technical needs assessment, drawing and specification review, customer service expectations and project due dates). Coordinate with appropriate RPM employees to ensure that customer needs are successfully met.

· With input from colleagues, develops new product designs, and makes improvements to existing product designs. Evaluates products, parts, or processes for the purpose of improving their cost efficiency and reliability. Develops components and assembly drawing that are necessary for the successful manufacture of product (machining, fabricating, assembling, and testing).

· Analyze or otherwise develop drawings, specifications, and manufacturing processes, necessary for the preparation of cost estimates, customer proposals (quote responses) and manufacturing work orders, while continuously striving to optimize our competitiveness and maximize our profitability (ROI). Prepare customer proposals (quote responses) supported by standardized cost estimates and detailed records. Use computer aided drafting software programs to generate 2D and 3D production drawings from 3D solid models. Use 2D and 3D production drawings to develop 3D solid models.

· Works with Infor SyteLine ERP system to develop material requirements, part ID’s, manufacturing process routings and define work scopes. Utilizes knowledge of various CNC machines, welding and test equipment, manufacturing processes, mathematics, material of construction and other physical sciences to develop manufacturing drawings and specification (design for manufacturability).

· Plans and coordinates estimating activities with other departments, so that we are successfully able to respond to customer requests for quotes in acceptable time frames.

· Prepare bids for pending order requirements (requests for quote). Track and manage the status of open bids to successfully meet established due dates. Proactively follow-up with customers to determine the reasons why a given quote response was either won or lost. Provide constructive feedback to appropriate departmental employees to assure continuous improvement in our competitiveness moving forward.

· Regularly review closed job cost data and actual labor hour performance results on like jobs, in order to stay current. Define problems and work together with manufacturing personnel to institute corrective actions and improve the accuracy of our estimating process. Update existing engineering and quote masters to accurately reflect current performance expectations. Obtain updated raw material and outside service quotes for outsourced raw materials, subcontracted parts and services at time of estimate and at the time of order receipt (resolve any disconnects you uncover with management personnel, before submitting an order acknowledgment to a customer). Formulate new job cost estimates based on updated price quotes and manufacturing input, as well as your review of actual job cost performance results achieved on prior jobs (closed work orders). Work to successfully resolve any concerns you may have in this regard with management personnel. Maintain open loops of communication and information exchange.

· Provide input to sales forecasting activities in support of strategic sales plans that are aligned with annual corporate goals and objectives.

· Establishes work measurement metrics to analyze, improve and control processes, thus establishing more efficient and timely standards of performance. Evaluate and recommend actions to improve efficiencies and accuracies in current estimating, quoting and quote follow-up processes.

· Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolution of drafting, manufacturing, or test problems on assigned projects.

· Confer with customers, with occasional travel to customer facilities to gain a more thorough understanding of customer’s site-specific operational needs and product related requirements. Openly discuss and define economic considerations (budgets) for the primary purpose of developing design-based solutions for the mutual benefit of our customer and RPM. Continuously strive to improve the reliability and expected useful life span expectancy of our customer products, while reducing our internal manufacturing costs. The solutions for many of the challenges that we face will be uncovered in many of our customer’s melt shops, which is why it is important to schedule periodic visits.

· Recommends ideas and methods to improve worker efficiency, that reduce any material waste (scrap and rework), including the restructuring job duties, the reorganization of workflow, the relocation of work stations and equipment, and/or the purchase of new equipment or materials.

· Evaluate and recommend actions to improve efficiencies and accuracies in the current estimating, quoting and follow up processes.

· A willingness to meet with management, sales, manufacturing, and engineering personnel for the purpose of actively participating in and contributing towards continuous improvement project objectives is required.

· Prepares and manages project milestone schedules.

· A willingness to obtain and adhere to customer drawing and process specification requirements is required.

· Creates manufacturing process plans using the current ERP database.

· Monitors the shop floor manufacturing process plans to ensure the most current techniques are being implemented.

· Defines and develops manufacturing drawings and specifications required for production. Manage the drawing database to assure accuracy and current revision levels are maintained.

· Visit and consult with customers and vendors to facilitate RPM’s position as an active and successful participant in the marketplaces that we serve.

· Proactively contributes to company's overall mission and quality policy through teamwork, communication, and organizational processes.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

· An Associate in Applied Science Degree (Material Science and/or Mechanical Technology) is a minimum requirement. Solid Works and Auto CAD experience are pre-requisite requirements for this position. In lieu of a B.S in Engineering degree, 10 plus years of experience in manufacturing techniques and processes, to include; C.N.C. machining, welding, fabrication, painting, special processes and nondestructive test methods is required.

· An ability and willingness to interface with customers and personnel to define customer requirements is a must requirement.

· Knowledge of geometric tolerances and the ability to visualize mechanical drawings is required.

· Computer experience should be such that the individual can formulate reports based on data collected from within current in house databases and a working knowledge of Excel, Microsoft Word, Access, ERP systems and database management.

· Must be a US citizen.

· Ability to determine appropriate methodology of manufacturing sequences, involving machining, welding and other process as appropriate.

· Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

· Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

· Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

· Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or Associates of organization.
